Lee Korich
Artist Bio
Lee Korich began painting with oils at the Marge Yaros Studio in Orange County during the 1980’s and 1990’s. She concentrated on travel scenes from her European travels. Her Stratford-on-Avon cottage scene won an Honorable Mention at the 1992 Orange County Fair.
Since retiring from computer programming and relocating in San Diego, Lee has divided her artistic endeavors among oil painting, watercolor, and website design. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Carlsbad-Oceanside Art League (COAL) as Director of Computer Services. Lee built and maintains the COAL website at no cost to the organization and has been instrumental in the project to develop Artist Pages on the COAL website. Lee has won several ribbons for her entries in the COAL gallery. She has also shown her work at the San Diego Fair.
Artist Statement
My paintings create snapshots in time for the viewer. While painting, time becomes blurred as the image emerges on the canvas or watercolor paper. I really enjoy setting up a still life of unusual subject matter - like an interesting arrangement of seashells, spools of thread, or old tools - in my studio, then seeing where it takes me.
Sometimes I work on location...this is the most challenging situation. You need to deal with the wind, sun, and possibly, cold temperatures. The lighting changes as the sun moves in the sky. This forces me to work more quickly to capture the shadows correctly. Often times, I finish the painting from a photograph, although photographs rarely “do justice” to the vista.
