Programs
 | COAL presents monthly art exhibits at its gallery where members may | |
| display their artwork and offer it for sale. Ribbons are awarded in various art categories. Art Category Rules and Definitions can be found on the Policies / Forms page of this site. A reception is held on the 2nd or 3rd Sunday of the month from 4 - 6 pm (except for December). See the (COAL Calendar) for show and reception dates. (Click here for monthly show entry forms and release of liability forms.) Twice yearly in place of the monthly art exhibits there are special cash award show. See the Events page for more information on the special cash award shows. |
| COAL holds monthly meetings and art demonstrations (except for July, | |
| August, & December) from 1:30 - 3:30 pm at the Calavera Hills Community Center, Calavera Community Park, 2997 Glasgow Drive, Carlsbad. (Map) These meetings are open to the public and feature an art demonstration conducted by a well-known local artist. They are made possible, in part, by a grant from the City of Carlsbad Arts Office. | COAL member artists display their artwork at Art on the Green every | |
| weekend (weather permitting) on the lawn in front of the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort, 3075 Carlsbad Blvd., Carlsbad. (Map) Members who wish to display their work must meet certain requirements and be juried into the group by the COAL Board of Directors. | Each month (except March & August), one COAL member is a featured artist | |
| and is given prominent space to display his/her artwork in the gallery. To qualify for featured artist, the member must have won Best of Show at one of the COAL monthly art shows. (Click here for list of featured artists.) |
| The COAL Life Drawing Group meets on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the | |
| month (excluding December) from 9 am to noon at the gallery to sketch from a live model. A modest fee is collected to defray the cost of the model. Space is limited so any member wishing to participate should call the gallery for information. See the Life Drawing Group Guidelines on the Policies / Forms page of this site. |
| Special Exhibits... COAL periodically invites an outside group to display | |
| artwork in the COAL gallery during one of regular monthly art shows. These groups include high school art classes, the children's show, and an artist outreach grant program for developmentally disabled adults. (Click here for photos of the 2009 Special Needs Exhibit Reception.) |
| Coming... COAL will be sponsoring fee-based art workshops to be | |
| conducted by well-known artists in the community. These workshops will be held at the Calavera Community Center in Carlsbad. A schedule of upcoming workshops will be posted when this program is activated. |
